A recent study by analyst firm Coingecko determined that Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies are legal in about 61% of countries around the globe, with significant progress in changing their legal status since 2021. According to the report published by the company, as of December 11, 2023, bitcoin is legal in 119 countries and four British overseas territories. The number represents an increase of more than 40% in two years, considering that by 2021, the number of countries where the digital currency was legal barely approached 80.
