ETH Wallet Awakens After 9 Years, Moves Coins for Millions

A behemoth of an ETH wallet, dating back to a time when mining Ethereum was not yet possible, has finally awoken from its slumber. The wallet, with the address 0xCA66b2280FA282C5b67631CE552B62Ee55AD8474, received 1.969 ETH on July 30, 2015. Adjusted for inflation, this would be equivalent to around 6 million USD today. The wallet has been dormant for nearly 9 years, but it has finally been moved for the first time since its awakening.

The wallet's history is fascinating. At the time, Ethereum was not yet tradable, with trading only starting on August 7, 2015. The sender's address, Genesis, is listed on Etherscan, indicating that the Ethereum Foundation is responsible for the transaction.

Whale Alert, a crypto-tracking platform, reported on the transaction, stating that the address is from the era before mining. The wallet's owner has been quiet about their plans for the ETH, but it's clear that they have been holding onto it for a long time.

As of now, the wallet still holds 9.47 ETH, worth around 28,896 USD. However, in a series of 32 transactions, the remaining 1.959 ETH will be sent to the Beacon Deposit Contract, which holds a staggering 44.288 million ETH, equivalent to 135 billion USD.

The Beacon Deposit Contract is essentially a treasure trove managed by the Ethereum Foundation. In other words, no individual is behind this remarkable transaction, but rather the guardians of the blockchain itself.

Such whale transactions always spark the imagination of crypto investors. Just two weeks ago, a Bitcoin whale awakened after 14 years of dormancy and moved 50 BTC.
