How decentralized networks differ from traditional centralized systems

Decentralized systems have an entirely different pattern from traditional systems in the same three dimensions. The three dimensions include structure, control, and resilience. The typical centralized system normally involves a single body or leader and a small group of a few who control the network and are centralized on central servers or databases. This system achieves a high level of efficiency in the management and implementation of the system since all data can be accessed and operated within the domain of the center. However, the more efficient the centralization the more it is exposed to risks: the entire network can be fatal if the central server is hacked or goes down for some other reasons. There is information that attacks the right to free speech in such a network at many levels which scholars refer to as censorship due to the presence of the central points.


However, the fundamental difference between the two is that one allows control and data to be shared and distributed over a greater diastase through the assistance of multiple non-interconnected nodes with various management structures. The fact has implications for the workings of blockchain based on which other aspects function including digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. There is no single rich organization holding power over the other hundred players making it far less likely that it will be censored or misused or easy for them to become inactive. This breaks the network down into many parts and if one such part does not work properly there are still other parts to hold it in place such as record keeping by other nodes and consensus on the transaction validation process.


Yet the security aspect of the two networks is still significantly different. This business process is about tracking transactions that are secured by specialized proofs like PoW (Proof of Work) or PoS (Proof of Stake). This means that in terms of their transactions or any changes made to the network system, it has to be that the actions are agreed upon by a majority of participants so that unauthorized alteration is not possible.


In spite of the fact that decentralized systems are sought after due to their positives such as privacy, security, and resilience; assuming they do square the above, the output will also be affected. These systems will also hold in place a majority exclusion as they are required to agree on a particular aspect of the systems’ performance. Furthermore, decentralized networks often come with costs for participation to ensure network longevity and security like paying rewards for miners or validators.
