Hello friends, good to have you back here. Welcome to my blog. Trust you're keeping well. Oh! lest I forget to ask, I hope you're getting value from my post? Please feel free to always share your thoughts in the comment section.

Today we would be looking at another Interesting topic I've titled "Cryptojacking". It might sound new to many but as usual I will do my best to simplify this lesson, making it very comprehensive even to a complete novice. So guys let's get into it right away.

|
**Introduction**
|
|-----------|

You must have come across the word **Hijack** before. It actually means to taken control of something by force, I mean something you do not own, taking control over it and using it to your own advantage or selfish interest. Now this cut across every sphere.

We have it also in crypto space and to make it unique to the crypto sphere, a name was coined out to capture this act. It's called **Cryptojacking**. I think by now you should be able to decode what cryptojacking is all about, although you might not have the full picture at the moment and this is where I come in to continue from where your thoughts have driven you to...lols.

What is cryptojacking, how is it done, what are the types we have and how can it can be detected and prevented. This and many more are the questions I would attempt to answer as we discuss extensively on this topic.

|
**What is Cryptojacking**
|
|-----------|

Cryptojacking is a another kind of cybercrime attack by malicious players who go about hijacking computers meant for mining cryptocurrency for their own personal benefit. The reason for this is not far fetch, they are greedy and lazy. You know, It takes a lot to mine cryptocurrency.

You need a sophisticated computer, electricity and other relevant resources which when summed up together cost a whole lot, even beyond the reach of an average man.

|
|---------|

In a nutshell what it takes to mine crypto is just very expensive. In a bid to avoid all of these, these player/hacker, go in search of people's mining ware to highjack so they can use it to mine for themselves without the knowledge of the owner.

It doesn't matter what device you're using,it could be mobile, PC or what have you, their goal is to hijack it and make it work for them. Cryptojacking is one of the major cyber security threat combated in year 2021 according to ENISA

|
**How does Cryptojacking work**
|
|---------|

Let's not forget that this very act is carried out by some greedy hacker exploiting other people's mining resources, using it to their advantage. Now we want to learn how this is successfully carried out.

They use two major method to carry out their act, we have the **web browsers attack** and the **host based attack.** The web browser attract is done by imputing crypto mining software on a website where the victim is likely to visit or visits regularly. Through this they gain access into his device.

The host based method is the use of malware that is inputted into the victims device by means of download. The victim is not aware at this point until he begins to notice that something is wrong somewhere. The breakdown of the process for both method is as outlined below.

• **Preparation of Script:** The malicious miner prepares a script he would be deploying into his victims system. The script is designed to act in line with their pre determined malicious intention.

• **Script Infection:** This script are usually sent in form of links which automatically breach every security system when clicked. One would have downloaded or have it embedded into their device without even knowing. Here is exactly the reason why one should be careful of clicking just any link.

• **The launch attack:** at this point when the malware or script have been successfully deployed, the script is then activated to act accordingly. It begins to use the victims software to mine cryptos for the hacker.

To them it's cost effective and way economical as they do not need to use any of their resources to carry out the mining process.According to my findings, It takes about $35,000 to mine one Bitcoin (if not more) and then 1400kilowatt of energy. This is a whole lot, it's not a resources many out there can afford. This is the reason why these folks are all out to cut corners.

|
**Bottom Line**
|
|---------|

Cryptojacking is actually a cyber crime carried out by those greedy folks who have chosen to cut corners and earn from people's sweat. I know it takes a whole lot to put together a mining equipment but then we shouldn't venture into things we ain't capable of hoping we could exploit others to satisfy our selfish interest.

There you go friends.I would love to wrap it up at this juncture. I want to believe you've gotten so much from this piece. As my usual custom is, I would always encourage that you DYOR to be sure of every financial step you would want to take as I won't be liable for any form of loss encountered by you.

Feel free to share with me your thoughts in the comment section. Thanks for your time once again. Gracias!
