Inclement Weather

denmarkguy - 2025-12-20 09:37:00

For the past week or so, our corner of the Pacific Northwest has been having some of the worst weather in North America.

Extreme winds, record rains, extensive flooding, road closures and much devastation.

Yesterday, it came very close to home when a couple of very large trees uprooted (from a combination of high winds and soft soggy ground) fell on the neighbors' house, snapping both power lines in our area, in addition to the upended root balls tearing out the main water supply pipe.

It took about 16 hours for the utility company to pull new lines and get electricity restored... water is flowing again, except to about four houses on the "down" side of the fallen trees. Thankfully, the damage to the roof of our neighbors' house was minimal, and a private electrician was able to repair the connection between their house and the utility pole.

Meanwhile, the stormy weather continues, and we already had another power outage — thankfully only for a couple of hours — today. I guess it's just part and parcel of life in a semi-rural area with lots of trees and wind and rain.

Never a dull moment, it would seem.

Our infrastructure around here is rather antiquated and we're way overdue for some modernization like getting all the utilities underground, but I doubt that is going to happen anytime soon, on account of the cost at a time when property tax collections are evidently declining.

Meanwhile, a lot of the "tinfoil hat people" are experiencing their own inclement weather as comet 3i-Atlas makes it's closest approach to planet Earth tonight... giving rise to all sorts of conspiracy thinking about alien contact and extraterrestrial intelligence... for which there is pretty much zero evidence. But I guess many people find comfort in treating wishful thinking as if it were existant reality.

I don't know what to think of this world, sometimes...

The neighbors' house is back there, somewhere...

Speaking of "inclement weather," I guess we can also apply it to the Cryptosphere these days... glad I'm not in it "for the money!"

Seems like Steem has particularly taken it on the nose, which is a shame. Hopefully 2026 will be better, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a great weekend!
