Coinbase Is Creating a Film Trilogy Featuring Bore Ape Yacht Club NFT Characters

The digital currency trading platform Coinbase is producing a three-part film series with the popular non-fungible token (NFT) project Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). The films will be crafted by Coinbase Entertainment and feature select BAYC NFT characters that will be crowdsourced from the Bored Ape NFT community. On April 11, Coinbase announced it has plans to release a film trilogy dedicated to the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection. A report stemming from one37pm.com indicates that the crypto exchange is “celebrating and amplifying the BAYC community” via the film trilogy.

Coinbase confirmed the films on Twitter after publishing a teaser tweet that said something was coming. A few hours later, Coinbase tweeted again and said: Definitely something. We’re creating an interactive three-part film featuring the [Bored Ape Yacht Club] & Apecoin communities. Come build with us [at] degentrilogy.com.

The one37pm.com announcement written by Charlie Kolbrener explains that Bored Ape owners can submit their Bored Ape NFTs to the web portal degentrilogy.com and if chosen, the Bored Apes will be featured in the three-part film adventure that also features the Apecoin project.

“At Coinbase, we are dedicated to creating and supporting content projects that speak directly to our community and sustaining the culture of Web3 innovation,” Coinbase Entertainment and culture marketing director William Swann said in a statement. Swann added: As we aim to bring the next billion people into the crypto economy, we firmly believe that this interactive film series will act as a catalyst to serve that mission and help audiences understand the collaborative nature of Web3. We’ve been inspired by the Bored Ape Yacht Club community and [we are] excited to invite them to co-create this film with us. Yuga Labs CEO Says the Film Trilogy Is a ‘Breakthrough Project’ for NFTs

On Twitter, Coinbase said people can help make the movie by connecting their wallet, submitting a Bored Ape, and “hide an easter egg.” The move with BAYC is taking place before the company gets ready to launch the upcoming Coinbase NFT Market. In mid-January, the exchange partnered with Mastercard to bolster the NFT marketplace. Through the deal, Mastercard credit and debit card users will be able to pay for non-fungible token assets via the Coinbase NFT marketplace.

Nicole Muniz, the CEO of Yuga Labs, the company that created the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT project, said the film trilogy with Coinbase is a pioneering step for NFTs and entertainment.

“We’re seeing how NFTs are evolving to be vehicles of access and participation in networks, games, merchandise, and now interactive entertainment,” Muniz explained during the announcement on Monday. This is a breakthrough project and we’re excited to see how this shapes the future of Web3 for all communities,” the Yuga Labs CEO added.
